This information about the H3N2 vaccine has already started to be published from academic institutions with large-scale production facilities. The public will be notified of the H3N2 vaccine in advance (by October 2013) and in fact, it is already available, along with its schedule of availability.
At the same time, the US government has decided to provide additional vaccines and support to WHO's effort to protect public health. The US government has announced a $100 million National Strategic Plan to reduce the global burden of infectious disease <>]. The US government will also provide assistance to developing countries as well as those countries which host significant HIV/AIDS epidemics, such as Cambodia, Malawi and Vietnam. This includes $25 million a year from 2012 to 2014 for international programs to help eradicate HIV/AIDS and the associated conditions and treatments.
The World Health Organisation estimates that by 2014, the US will support approximately $1 billion in efforts to fight the global epidemic of HIV/AIDS. According to the World Health Organization, this would include approximately $40 million annually for HIV/AIDS prevention; a full complement of global anti-retroviral drugs for those people most at risk for HIV, hepatitis B, cancer, malaria and tuberculosis; and approximately $1.3 billion annually for care for the sick and injured. The United States alone has announced a commitment to help pay for these programmes through the United States AIDS Trust Fund; at present, only 1.8 million people receive HIV/AIDS treatment worldwide <>]. This is less than one percent of all the people affected by HIV/AIDS.
With increased investment and more preparedness, it is increasingly likely that the US will follow India into providing free vaccines to the global community.

The H1N1 virus was not readily accessible to people whose immune systems had never been subjected to H3N2 virus before, so in many cases the H3N2 vaccine may have prevented or limited influenza A spread but allowed for influenza B deaths and other serious illnesses. The H1N1 influenza virus is now highly circulating in Asia. The first vaccine was made available in 1997 (see <>]). In fact, from 2008 onwards, the first clinical cases of H1N1 influenza have occurred in China, Indonesia, India and now Australia and New Zealand, but there are currently no reported cases of H1N1 infection in the USA, where the H1N1 vaccination program was introduced more than two years ago <>]. In these countries the US vaccine was initially designed as a prevention tool, but now appears to b
